Brrrrr-brrrr-brrr - January 10, 2013

Welcome Back!!!! YEA!!!!  After taking a break from family storytime for a few weeks, we were back in full force.  After several weeks of very cold weather, and snow on the ground, and a theme of "Brrrrr-brrrr-brr" planned, January 10 turned out to be in the 40s and all the snow was melting, but the evening proved to be foggy, so I was hopeful I would get a fairly good crowd.  As luck would have it, ALL of my "old gang" members were back! It was so good to see them all, and so glad to have them return for another round of stories, crafts, activities, songs, etc.

Opening Song:
If You're Ready
(Tune: If You're Happy and You Know It)

If You're ready for a story, take a seat.
If You're ready for a story, take a seat.
Clap your hands and stomp your feet,
Make your hands all nice and neat,
If you're ready for a story, take a seat.

Songs/Fingerplays:
Frost
(Tune: The Farmer in the Dell)
The frost is on the roof
(points hands over head)
The frost is on the ground
(point to the floor)
The frost is on the window
(make a window with your hands)
The frost is all around
(make large circles with hands)

Dance Like Snowflakes
(Tune: Are You Sleeping)

Dance like snowflakes,
Dance like snowflakes
In the air, in the air
Whirling, twirling snowflakes
Whirling, twirling snowflakes
Here and there, here and there.

Craft/Activity:
Tonight's craft really didn't have anything to do with cold weather or snow or anything, but because we were starting a new 'session' of storytime, I wanted to do something "new" to decorate or exhibit in the storytime room.  So, I bought this lifesize person cutouts from Oriental Trading Company. The kids all took the cutout home with them, and I asked them to decorate them to look like themselves, and bring them back when they are finished, and I will hang them on the walls around the storytime room. I'm excited to see what the kids and their families come up with. Since I have a wide range of kids, I think it will be interesting to see what the older kids come up with.

Ending Song:
Storytime is at an End
(Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star)

Storytime has reached its end
Say good-bye to all your friends.
We've read some books and had some fun.
Feels like we have just begun!
Storytime is over, friends.
We have really reached the end!
