Colors, Colors, and More Colors, part two

I had a workshop involved with Summer Reading Program yesterday out of town, so another staff member led the Tuesday morning storytime.  I just had her do another storytime involved with colors.  I pulled some fun books ago for her to read:

The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse, by Eric Carle
Mouse Paint, by Ellen Stoll Walsh
Pete the Cat, I Love My White Shoes, by Eric Litwin

The flannel board rhyme was:

Kitty Cat, Kitty Cat, Are you in the (color) hat?, and the picture of the cat was hidden under the felt hats and kids would discover where the cat was hiding.

Alphabet is "over" so let's start on COLORS

We finished with our Alphabet books last week .. "yea!"

So, it is time to get back to thinking about new things to do with my storytimes.  I won't lie, it was nice to be planned so far ahead of time (i.e., knowing that there is a certain obvious order to the ABCs and we were following that order).  Unfortunately, as a rule, I am normally not that prepared....but I keep trying!

Colors and Numbers (as far as we can get before storytimes end for the season, before summer reading program) are next.

We did not have a craft today (primarily due to time available to plan a craft on my part this past week or so), but we did have a snack of colorful Great Value (Wal-Mart) fruit snacks - very colorful; and a flannel storyboard of "10 in the Bed" (picture below), instructions found at:  http://www.makinglearningfun.com/themepages/TenintheBedFeltBoard.htm.

The books we read today were:

The Crayon Box that Talked, by Shane DeRolf

and

Colors for Zena, by Monica Wellington

Like I said, we did not do a craft, but the book Colors for Zena would lend itself very well to doing painting and mixing colors with the kids.  Unfortunately, because we are going through a library renovation right now, and we don't necessarily have a good area for messiness, we can't do it :(

Songs & Fingerplays for Storytimes with Babies and Toddlers

The More We Get Together

The more we get together, together, together,
The more we get together,
The happier we'll be.

For your friends are my friends
And my friends are your friends.
The more we get together,
The happier we'll be.

The more we share together,
Together, together,
The more we share together,
The happier we'll be.

For sharing is caring and caring is sharing,
The more we share together,
The happier we'll be.

Clap Your Hands
(tune: Row, Row, Row Your Boat)

Clap, clap clap your hands,
Clap them all around.
Clap them loud, then clap them soft
Now don't make a sound.

Stamp, stamp, stamp your feet,
Stamp them all around.
Stamp them loud, then stamp them soft.
Now, don't make a sound.

To Market, To Market

To market, to market,
To buy a fat pig.
Home again home again
Jiggety-jig.

To market, to market
To buy a fat hog.
Home again, home again.
Jiggety-jog.

Peep in (lift eyebrow)
Ring the bell (pull ear)
Lift the latch (push nose up)
And walk in. (put finger in mouth)

Shoe the little mare (tap on the other foot)

Nimble-nim, nimble-nim, nimble-nim (bounce your legs gently)
This is the way the gentleman ride

This is the way the farmers ride
Jiggety-jog, jiggety-jog (move legs alternately)
(Nose bounce hard)
This is the way the delivery boy rides
Trippety-trot, trippety-trot

Down by the Station

Down by the station
Early in the morning.
See the little puffer bellies,
All in the row.
See the engine driver
Pull back on the throttle.
Chug, chug, toot, toot,
Off we go!

Hush Little Baby

Hush, little baby, don't say a word,
Papa's going to buy you a mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird don't sing.
Papa's going to buy you a diamond ring.

If that diamond ring turns brass,
Papa's going to buy you a looking glass.
And if that looking glass gets broke,
Papa's going to buy you a billy goat.

And if that billy goat won't pull,
Papa's going to buy you a cart and bull.
And if that cart and pull turns over,
Papa's going to buy you a dog named Rover.

If that dog named Rover don't bark,
Papa's going to buy you a horse and cart,
And if that horse and cart falls down,
You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town.

Living in my pond.

Five little, four little, three little froggies,

BUMPETY, BUMPETY, BUMP!

The mare banged her knees and the farmer his crown

Plays at peekaboo.
(Hold fingers in front of eyes)

Y & Z

Y Box:  Yellow yarn, and yo-yo

Z box:  Zebra

BOOKS:
Finding books for the letter Y is kind of hard....   I really like the book Peepsqueak, by Leslie Ann Clark, about a little yellow bird.

Z is for Moose, by Bingham is a cute book for Z... a moose doesn't want to have to wait until M to appear in the alphabet book, and then when they do reach M, moose is NOT the picture for it.  Very cute illustrations.
