Summer Reading Program 2014 - Fizz, Boom, READ!

This summer is going to be hopping at the library...that is, whenever the library renovation is finished and we can actually set a date!!!! HA!!

I was able to attend a workshop yesterday at our library system headquarters to make, share, discuss different activities and crafts, tips, "don't do's and didn't works", etc.   It is always tons of fun, but also provides really good hands on trial of some of the ideas.  We also saw and tried some different experiments, activities and concoctions at the workshop as well.

R-E-D

We've been doing general colors as the storytime theme for the past several weeks.  I decided to start doing a color a week until the end of our storytime sessions in May.  So, today we focused on RED.

BOOKS:

There are lots and lots of books that have Red in their title or have to do something with Red.  I picked

Farmer Dale's Red Pickup Truck, by Lisa Wheeler

Llama Llama Red Pajama, by Anna Dewdney

and who can forget the most famous Big Red Dog ever....

Clifford's Puppy Days, by Norman Bridwell  (I actually hadn't planned on reading this book, but had it as a display book on the table...the kids really wanted to read it!)

SONG:
The song we sang today is:

RED
(tune: are you sleeping)

R-e-d     red
R-e-d     red

I can spell red.
I can spell red.

Fire trucks are red!
Stop signs are red, too.

R-e-d
R-e-d

CRAFT/ACTIVITY:
Simple activity today...printed off Red coloring page, and provided red markers and red crayons as well as white paper/red construction paper for free coloring.
